To preserve the life of a 79-year-old man suffering from several comorbidities, doctors adopted a revolutionary three-pronged strategy combined with the most sophisticated minimally invasive procedure. The patient had suffered a cardiac attack with heart failure, as well as extensive renal disease, pneumonia, anaemia, and uncontrolled diabetes, making the situation extremely complicated.

On Thursday, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, released a statement revealing that the procedure was done via the patient`s hand artery while the patient was awake. The septuagenarian patient came to the hospital with severe chest pain, breathlessness, and decreased kidney function.

After a medical examination, it was revealed that the patient had suffered a massive heart attack, leading to heart failure.

Given his age and multiple comorbidities, doctors decided to use a novel three-pronged approach that included the impella heart pump (the worlds smallest artificial heart that supports dense calcium cutting), the orbital artectomy balloon (which cuts heart artery calcium in very small parts that come outside the body with circulation, allowing stenting), and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS, a balloon camera that sees inside heart arteries).

Dr. Pawan Sharma, Associate Director of Cardiology at Max Super Speciality Hospitals Patparganj, stated that this was the first operation in India where they combined the three most advanced cutting-edge technologies. He also added that the patient has been discharged and is doing well now.
